It is used to supply power to a passive load consisting of a resistance $R_{g}$ and a reactance $X_{L}$ . For maximum power to be delivered from the generator to the load, the value of $X_{L}$ is equal to :

Step 1: For delivering maximum power from the generator to the load, total internal reactance must be equal to the conjugate of total external reactance.

Hence, X_{int} = X_{ext}

\Rightarrow X_{g} = {(X_{L})}^{*} = - X_{L}

\Rightarrow X_{L} = - X_{g}
